This weekend I spent a couple of hours drawing this pen and ink self portrait. I’m considering using it on a redesign of my Green Comma business card. I think I like the idea, but I’m a bit torn. I could use your input!
-There’s a picture of me on the card! People will remember who they got the card from after they get home with a pile of cards.
-Shows an actual illustration and example of my work.
-Is unique and makes more of an impression (than just using the green comma logo, for example).
-Seems like something realtors or financial folk do, putting a photo of themselves on a business card. I’m not sure if it’s the message I want to convey.
-People might dislike this particular pen and ink drawing and think it’s the only style of work I do.
-Do I look too sad? Too happy? Too young? Too old? Too boring, too… Uh oh it’s a picture of me.
What do you think? I’d love any thoughts.
ps: In case you were curious, here was my process for creating it. First I sketched a pen and ink drawing of myself (with actual pen and paper). The first one came out badly, the second was pretty good. Next I took a photo of the drawing, opened a photoshop file and placed the drawing on the first layer in Photoshop. I applied various filters, blurred it a bit, then changed the opacity to about 50%. On a new layer, I traced over the drawing on the computer (re-drawing a second portrait of myself on top of the first one to create some depth). I tweaked the new drawing while looking at myself on Photo Booth (splitting the screen between Photo Booth and Photoshop). Looking back at the drawing about an hour later, I decided I looked a bit too tired, so I tried to make myself look a bit more cheerful.
