Happy New Year! It’s finally snowing here in Pittsburgh, which is actually giving me a great sense of relief after all the bizarre, distracting unseasonableness. Usually I’m no fan of winter, so this happiness at the cold is a new experience. But someone once said to me that they look forward to winter because it’s a time to hunker down and get some creative work done. I’m sitting at my local cafe and there’s not one chair free, every table covered with laptops, so I guess I’m not the only one inspired by the snow. What else is there to do besides sit at the computer for hours making animation?
So without further ado, here is a new short video to start off 2016. Meet the plants in this visit to the anthropomorphic orchids at my favorite place in Pittsburgh, Phipps Conservatory. The background is an original watercolor, the plants are created with a combination of collage and Wacom tablet, animated using Flash. A new feature of this animation is you’ll notice there is sound and the orchids actually talk (recognize any voices?). I aim to continue this series to meet more of these goofy leaf creatures, perhaps the pitcher plants and other carnivores…look out.
